Breastfeeding should be a natural process, but many mothers run into obstacles. In the past, women turned to their mothers, aunts, and grandmothers for help. Now they look to you, their healthcare professional, for help with breastfeeding. As we learn more about this normal physiological process, the suggestion for how to treat breastfeeding problems are evolving.
With solid research about the health benefits, more mothers choose to breastfeed their babies, but unfortunately, they are not doing it for long periods. Many times mothers stop because of issues that can be easily resolved. Healthcare professionals like you play a key role in their success. 4:30 – EVALUATIONS
Colette Acker, IBCLC, RLC is the Executive Director of the Breastfeeding Resource Center. She has been working with moms and babies for 20 years. She has experience in both inpatient and outpatient lactation care. Her passion is to educate healthcare professionals who work with breastfeeding families.
Janice McPhelin, IBCLC, RLC has over a decade of experience as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Last year she worked with 465 families for a total of 752 visits! She works with breastfeeding dyads in hospital and outpatient settings. Janice’s role at the BRC is two-fold, as she is also the Director of Development.
Gail Herrine, MD, FACOG, IBCLC, FABM is an attending physician, Medical Director of Maternity, and Medical Director of Lactation at Temple University Hospital. She is currently leading the Temple team to become Baby Friendly. Gail has incredible passion for breastfeeding.
