Hi BRC community!
We are your new Occupational Therapy graduate interns, and we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves and explain how we fit into the amazing work being done at the BRC! Our names are Emily, Shannon, and Marissa and we are occupational therapy graduate students from Salus University. We know that having a baby is a BIG adjustment, and we are here to help make that adjustment easier by answering questions and finding solutions to issues that come up in your daily life. We will be working at all three BRC locations for the next few months to provide occupational therapy services to new moms and babies.
Occupational Therapists at the BRC strive to maximize the health and well-being of mothers and families through the acquisition of new skills, establishment of healthy routines, and adaptation to changing roles.
We are providing weekly classes, developmental screenings, and individual sessions. The best news is everything we do at the BRC is FREE!
You are probably asking yourself what exactly can we do for you. We will consider your HOME, WORK, and SOCIAL roles HOLISTICALLY, helping you to establish strategies and routines to SUPPORT breastfeeding and motherhood through GROUP classes, INDIVIDUAL consultations, and BABY development screenings. Topics we provide education on include but are not limited to:
- Ergonomics & exercises to prevent injury
- Sleep and bedtime routines
- Coping skills for stress management
- Promoting early childhood development
- Energy conservation techniques
- Baby wearing & choosing toys
- Helping older siblings adjust to new baby
- How to involve family members
A schedule of weekly classes and descriptions for the month of January is posted on the BRC calendar. Keep a look out for weekly tips and occupational therapy blog posts. We look forward to seeing everyone at classes and screenings!
