This class will help mothers set expectations for the early days and give important tips to speed up recovery after birth. Becoming a mother is a life-changing event. Mothers spend a lot of time preparing for the baby’s birth and getting the house and gear ready to go. But so few take the time to care for themselves in the days following the baby’s arrival. In the first days and weeks, moms are tired and their bodies need to heal. We will discuss how to help this process as well as how to talk with visitors so that they can be the most helpful to you while enjoying meeting the new baby. Finally, we will look at the importance of establishing a solid breastfeeding relationship early on to help ensure a good milk supply and a positive nursing relationship. Topics will include: taking care of yourself once baby arrives, lochia, perineal care, the importance of a “lying in period,” making a sitz bath, handling visitors, and establishing a nursing relationship. This class is taught by Katie Matthews through Our Baby Class. Katie is an OBC Certified Teacher. Her website is This class is for pregnant women.
