Part I
During her pregnancy with her daughter, Anastasia, she had a plan: she wanted a natural birth and to breastfeed her baby. But, after being admitted to the hospital weeks ahead of her due date, she saw her plan slowly unravel.
Babies, birth, and breastfeeding can be unpredictable. Vanessa’s story is a reminder that some things don’t turn out as planned and what we thought would be natural and easy may be difficult. The Breastfeeding Resource Center can help you achieve your goals and overcome your challenges. From connecting you to birth workers and providing the tools needed to breastfeed with confidence, to providing a network of families to connect with or help with sleep training, we are here for you and your family.
Every Gift Helps!
Vanessa remained persistent in her goal to breastfeed her baby and enlisted the help of the BRC. Follow her journey with us as we continue to highlight her story. We were thrilled to be a part of her journey!
Part 2
While little Anastasia remained in the NICU for almost three weeks, Vanessa worked hard to express her milk. And, although she was overjoyed when Anastasia finally came home, Vanessa soon found her pumping schedule difficult to manage and saw her supply drop. She was able to take advantage of our Pump It Up! Program to utilize a hospital grade pump, but it was still difficult to manage. “When she came home it was difficult because I didn’t have as much free time,” she shared. “So, my supply started to decrease.”
When you make a gift to the BRC, your generosity makes possible an array of programs that fit any family’s need. Contributions from donors, like you, allowed Vanessa to enroll in our Pump It Up program, provide milk for Anastasia, and foster the confidence needed to persevere with her breastfeeding goals.

Part 3
Determined to stay on course with her breastfeeding journey, our new mom–a college student who qualified for the BRC’s sliding scale of payment–visited our center with her bundle of joy in hopes Anastasia would latch. “She was so stubborn,” Vanessa shared. “She just wasn’t having it…I was scared that I wasn’t going to get to breastfeed.”
Still, Vanessa never gave up.
The BRC accompanied Vanessa on every step of her breastfeeding journey, from learning to use the pump to Anastasia’s latch. The combined total of her visits to our center and enrollment in our Pump It Up! Program totaled approximately $700, and Vanessa—whose insurance did not cover her visits—would not have been able to afford lactation help if it weren’t for the generosity of donors who make the BRC and its services possible.
Breastfeeding support should not be hindered by financial circumstances. Please make your gift to the BRC today so we can continue helping families like Vanessa and Anastasia.
